Image editing software for digital marketing

Image Editing for Digital Marketing:

We often find ourselves recommending to customers that they make more content for their website posts, social media posts and other digital marketing efforts.  The challenge for many small businesses comes with having the knowledge or tools to create graphics.  For those that are pretty quick on the uptake with software programs the barrier can be expensive graphic design software packages like Photoshop and while we love it as one of the core tools of our trade… it is price prohibitive for many small business in their marketing efforts.

Why would I need to edit my images for digital marketing?

Websites are very image based these days… and if your competitor just offered a better price and you want to meet it…

Or perhaps you want to get a Friday afternoon funny posted on social media and you just need a catchy graphic to go with it that includes your logo…

In digital marketing campaigns, everything has to work together toward a common goal.  The same goes for how you want to be perceived — your brand image. Consistency is a must. There’s no room for mistakes you want things to look right and represent your business professionally.

Sure, one solution is to install professional photo editing software like Photoshop on every computer. But that’s a costly, inefficient solution – unless you’re a design house. You need a free, easy-to-use alternative that could save your backside and let you devote resources to other areas of your business.

GIMP (Win/OS X/Linux)

The best known and most powerful alternative to Photoshop is the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). It takes care of such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Paint.NET (Windows)

This Adobe Photoshop alternative offers many popular features, such as layer editing, customizable interface, filters and effects.  I would have to say it lies somewhere between GIMP and Photoshop in terms of functionality. But it’s perfect for non-designers.  The major setback — it only works in Windows.

Pixlr (Web-based) – FAVOURITE!!!

I have to admit — Pixlr is a real gem. It’s a bundle of web-based (and mobile!) apps with a wide range of image editing features. PIXLR EDITOR, PIXLR EXPRESS and PIXLR O-MATIC cover all the basics, such as rotation, resizing and cropping. And it has filters, layers and lots of effects.

Although it’s not as sophisticated as some of the other alternatives, it’s as simple as it gets which saves you time!!!.   This image editor has an intuitive interface, runs on your browser in any operating system — and it’s free.
